has never slept all night

my daughter is 17 months she has never slept all night she wake up to 5 times a night she still ahs milk i have tried water , leting her scream, controled crying its a nightmare , she also WILL NOT eat much soild food again tried everything help in so stressed my son is 8 and was and still is perfect where did i go wrong ?

Don't think of it as your fault. It can't be if one turned out well. Why is CC such a nightmare?

You haven't gone wrong they haven't read the book I too am completely stressed out at the moment spent an hour in tears rhis morning as ds wouldn't go for a sleep. He slept very well until he was about 9m and is now a complete nightmare, awake 7 -8 times a night I am exhausted. He is also decided to become a faddy eater. I am getting by by thinking well I'm sure he will be better by the time he goes to school ans tehn I'm going to bed for a year!!!

my daughter is 17 months she has NEVER slept all night she waks up to five times a night i am sure it is linked to her not eating solid food she has never aten a whole meal not even the little jars . ive cooked my own food brought organic nothing seems to work she will eat about a half inch of bananna sometimes. we all eat togher at meal times she will sit in her highchair as i want her to no thats the routine but she just throws her food she is not underweight but only has milk about 4 pints a day .

Well, I am sure you should cut down on the milk to about a pint a day and then I amsure whe will eat more, but saying that, I am aware is easier than actully doing it. Has your HV been of any help?

to be honest i have only saw her a few times when k was born i think as i have a 8 year old they didnt bother

when i offered k water she throws a mental feel like a bit of a defeatest now u no what i mean i tried that it dont work i even as for a sedative for her i though if shr slept all night she will wake happy then want food

Have you tried watering down her milk? That might make her hungrier, without her realising that she's not getting the milk.

hi joanne - sorry to hear this - you must be exhausted!

agree that cutting down the amount of milk she has will help her to eat more as she will be hungrier. have you tried giving feeding her solids more often throughout the day? i know you want to her at 'normal' times with the rest of you but she may prefer to eat smaller amounts more often. you could still feed her at your mealtimes but perhaps introduce a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack as well.

Definitely agree with the others on cutting down her milk.

It's a viscuos cycle: the more milk she has, the less food she wants, and the more she'll wake in the night as the milk isn't really anough to keep her going.

IMHO sorting out the eating should help with the sleeping too.

There's a case study in the Gina Ford weaning book on a little girl who sounds very similar to yours. She ate hardly anything but drank loads of milk. I'm at work so can't reference it in the book for you, but maybe some other MNer can find it. Why not post on the Feeding/Weaning board and see if anyone can help.

Did you see the latest research in the papers? Apparently babies who get a good dose of afternoon daylight sleep better - encourages production of melatonin? Can you get an afternoon walk in anywhere just in case it helps?
