My shy boy

I have a kind and sweet 18 month old DS and its only when I see him with other children, my anxious mind starts to wander.

We took him to soft play today and it was interesting to watch how scared he was of the little slides and how he would often avoid anything where other little children were. He is very cautious and takes quite a while to adjust to any new things. I suppose my worries heighten when I watch children of a similar age dive right in. He is also very aware of everyone around him, always staring at everyone around before he starts playing.

All little ones are different and I love how friendly and smiley DS if even if he is quite shy. But I remember also being a shy child and finding things so hard! I guess we want our children to have more fun and feel better than we did and that's why I often worry about his confidence.

I wondered if anyone had any tips to help him grow his confidence and feel safe in these environments. Me and DP work full time and DS is in nursery 3 days a week and with grandparents for 2 just to give some background.

I think it is inbuilt in all of us to worry about our dc.
When you have one of the ones that "dives in" all the time, you are on edge the whole time that they are going to hurt either themselves or one of their peers.

We are all different. There is nothing wrong with being cautious and considering things before trying them out. Smile
He is very little yet, and will begin to get used to children through spending time at Nursery.
