Please please tell me that endless repetition (in 4 yr old) is a PHASE and comes to an END eventually!

Goes on forever,
goes on forever,
goes on forever

Our dd (nearly 5) has been doing this for the last month and it drives me mad! It's like sometimes she doesn't even know she's doing it, just chanting and chanting till your head explodes.

I'm guessing it's a phase. I vaguely remember doing it myself. I remember chanting a phrase I'd heard on the radio or something "My god, she's dead bom be lom be lom" over and over until my family were near breaking point! I don't do it now (i'm 43) so maybe it is a phase

DS is the same. Sometimes he is so busy repeating that he doesn't hear our response.
It can be infuriating!

He is 4 nearly 5 btw.

Oh thank goodness I am not alone. I sometimes feel as though she is trying to get into my head and control me. I hope it is a phase. My dd is 4.5 years.

Franniban · 10/01/2008 19:49

No you are definatey not alone, my ds has started this as well, just after Christmas. Not so bad at the moment, but I think that it goes in waves!

fondant4000 · 10/01/2008 20:33

Pruners, yes my dd does that too. "I'm going to eat this roll, I'm going to eat this roll etc.

She also copies everything we say:

Me: "DD will you have a wee please?"

her: "DD will you have a wee please?"

aarrghhh!

I mostly ignore, pretend not happening, ask her to please stop when ears start bleeding.....

FrannyandZooey · 10/01/2008 20:35

what happens if you take over, then tail off?

"oh, you're making the jet car! There it is. It's got a big wheel at the back. It's your jet car, made out of lego. You're putting the front part on now" etc

do you have to respond each time or just he just witter if you leave him to it?

sherby · 10/01/2008 20:38

Oh DD does this, I was going to start a thread

DD I'm hungry

ME What would you like

DD I'm hungry

Me What would you like

DD actually eating the food still saying she is hungry
