Almost 5 year old can't skip

Or teacher said to me that DS almost 5 can't skip and we need to practise at home!
I've never even thought about skipping and just assumed it would be something he picks up when he does.
But apparently it's part of their early years development?!
😕

Does he want to?
it can take quite a bit of effort and be quite frustrating.

Do you mean rope skipping or just skipping as a means of movement? They're very different.

Most children at 5 can skip around a room in foot. Most cannot skip with a rope.

I teach this age group.

Skipping around the room or playground. Like one foot then the other kind of skipping. He just seems to do a 'gallop' movement 😂

Ah! That makes sense. I was thinking seven or eight would be more realistic for skipping with a rope.

My dd is just 4 and can just about do it. Tbh though she's only even trying to do it because I've shown her and am a goofball and demonstrate it to her whenever we're out etc. Approaching 5 is possibly on the old side. I remember being seen by some sort of therapist when I was a similar age for exactly the same reason. I'm definitely on the clumsy side but I get on fine in life and did well academically. I'd just show him for a few minutes a day and see if he picks it up but I don't think it's reason to panic x
