My 19 month old little boy is VERY strong willed and I need some advice on managing his behaviour. He talks a lot for his age and is super bossy and demanding, at the moment he just wants to control everything and whines a lot. I've always been very responsive and in a way I think it's come back to bite me as he just whines at me thinking ill do whatever he wants. I'm getting exhausted with it, he's been poorly the last week and it's been tough with the crankiness on top of it all. Can anyone recommend any good books or anything about toddlers this age? I'm at a loss sometimes what to do as he's so clever he often manages to figure out a way to do what he wants anyway.
An example of this...
Tidying up last night he put his wooden fruits away in the box but the last one he wanted to put on the chair. I said it had to go away and we had a silent stand off for a few mins where he kept trying to put it on the chair refusing to let go when I offered the box to put it in. I said it needs to be tidied into its box but he then threw it on my knee, looked me square in the face and said "it jumped mummy" 🙃

No advice but I am in the same situation with a nearly 3 year old DD, who sounds exactly like your DS, except if she doesn't get her ways she starts screaming, hitting and pushing me away. Sometimes she says mummy is a monster ' go away mummy' etc It's really hard going at the moment and really makes you feel like you've failed at this whole parenting thing. Tonight was one of those episodes, she is now in bed (I think it all gets worse if she is ill or hasn't had enough sleep) and I am downstairs by myself in tears, as it really does feel like my own daughter hates me....

Two things: 1- the book How to Talk so Little Kids Will Listen is great and helped me a lot

2- Choose your battles. This will become increasingly relevant the older your son gets and so you might as well start now. If you're going to have a stand-off over the position of a piece of wooden fruit you're going to be exhausted by 8am when he's 2/3! I mean this kindly. :-)
