9 month old development

I’m really worried about my little boy - he’s almost 9 months and can sit unaided but can’t crawl, he’s good at standing.

He doesn’t respond to his name or babble or make a lot of eye contact or really show any interest when we talk to him.

He’s always been a really good baby in terms of he can keep himself amused and playing quite happily but I’m just really worried about his development 😔

He turns his wrists in circles when he’s excited/upset as well which I don’t know if that’s something to worry about too

Some babies don't crawl in a conventional way. Is he at all mobile at all? Can he get to something by bum shuffling, dragging himself on his tummy (I think that's called army crawling), etc.?

I wouldn’t worry yet. Some babies never crawl, some bum shuffle. My DD didn’t start crawling until she was 10.5 months.

It’s more the social aspect I’m worrying about to be honest 😔 he doesn’t turn around when we talk or say his name and he’s just generally too interested in anything else around him. He doesn’t babble either 😩 I’m so worried

@Mummytobr might be worth getting his hearing checked but my DD didn’t babble until after she turned 1.

@Mummytobr Hey hun. Can I ask how your child is now with development. My son is quite the same at 9 months and I’m very worried too
would love to hear back from you.
Thanks x

Hi @Danielle1989x - please don’t worry! Looking back, 9 months old is still so tiny, I think we expect too much from them! My little one didn’t babble until he was 1 - I now have an almost 18 month old who can say 100+ words and just does not stop talking! He’s still a bit iffy socially - he has separation anxiety and is a bit wary at toddler groups, with strangers etc. but overall I’ve learned he will do everything in his own time. 🥰

@Mummytobr
Hey hun. Thanks for much for getting back to me about your son
my sons 9 months and I know it’s so young still but his completely different to my two girls. They was SO advanced. Like way beyond doing what they should at their age. Whereas he is quite lazy. He can certainly do a lot but he doesn’t tend to do it on demand.
he learnt to clap quite young but a month later completely stopped.
he is standing a lot and wants to walk but his balance is all over the place. Just starting to crawl but still quite slow at wanting to move about. Goes to go then sits back down alot
he does the hand twirling though which you’ve mentioned
my son does that a lot. Everyday
he does it in his car seat. Pram. High chair. His hands go crazy when he eats. He twirls his feet too
did your son outgrow that? Did he do it often
its so worrying. I think the worst
he also grunts and makes this growling noise :-(
I hope they are just strange baby quirks he’ll outgrow
x
