Hi,
DD has just turned 12. She says she has high anxiety all the time. She says she's had it as long as she can remember. Today she texted me:
"I ALWAYS experience symptoms of anxiety despite not worrying about anything. like I can't relax whatsoever even if I have weeks off with no plans. like I'm always excessively sweating, shaky, get random shivers, grind my teeth, get heart palpitations, etc without being worried about anything at all. I literally can't relax whatever I'm doing".
She's been to anxiety groups at school, but says it was 'stupid'. She says she can't identify what she's anxious about, and every suggestion I make is met with a rebuff. I've suggested mediation, breathing exercises, more outdoor time (she barely goes out), warm baths with relaxing music - you name it, I've suggested it. She is very negative about receiving any help or assistance. It's either that she believes that she's beyond help, or she prefers to remain like this.
We've talked to school, and they've done some work with her.
She spends an awful lot of time online (as most kids do I suppose).
Has anyone had a similar experience or is going through something similar. This is a common problem I would think...
Tia :)
