What age did your DC learn to roll over?

And how long did it take them to learn how to do it? I know that all children are different but just interested to get some idea of what to expect and when with my DS - he's 3.5 months and starting to roll over onto his side but not able to make it right over yet...

TIA

DS was 4.5 months.

DD was 11.5 months.

Have no idea how long it took them to learn but presumably took DD rather longer .

DS never really learnt to roll over. He did it once or twice from 4 months but seriously was not bothered. Even now as a 19 month strapping toddler who runs, jumps/climbs, if he's lying on the floor on his back he whinges for help rather than roll over!

bundle · 09/01/2008 11:38

6 weeks
i kid ye not, both of them

thequeenofcontradiction · 09/01/2008 11:40

DS at about 7 months. He wasn't bothered until then but got the hang of it really quickly.

Grouchyoscar · 09/01/2008 11:44

DS managed to roll over at 9 weeks. It was his favourite trick.

He's get on his tum then wiggle his arms and legs about outstretched. He looked like a parachuter in freefall

It was chaos when we went to babymassage as he wanted to show off his new party piece.

He loved being on his front and he didn't sit up until he was 7 mths, 3 days later he pulled himself up to standing and 2 days after that he started cruising. He didn't walk without the aid of furniture until he was 13 mths.

Thing is don't fret about your DC's development. It took me a while but I've come to the conclusion the will do it in their own time when they are ready. I think we should have a Baby Lead Development thread myself.

TrinityRhinosDhWonHerAnIPOD · 09/01/2008 11:46

all three of them at about 12 to 15 weeks

weeglenny · 09/01/2008 12:13

Thanks all for the replies, it sounds like it varies quite a lot then, though Bundle amazed at 6 weeks The reason I was asking is because he's trying to roll over all the time at the moment, including during the night, so he's waking up loads...

weeglenny, it was a nightmare, both girls would zigzag across the room if I left them for a moment

GillL · 09/01/2008 12:59

DD - 8 weeks onto tummy and 14 weeks back over onto her back.

DS - 19 weeks onto tummy but can't roll back over onto his back yet.

Piffle · 09/01/2008 13:00

back to front 2 mths
front to back about 3.5 mths
he hated being on his back hence why he did i t that way around

Nip · 09/01/2008 13:03

my DS never rolled fully over until he could walk at 12 mo's. He would try and half roll, but never all the way. As soon as he walked, he got it.. he's now 21mo and a fully fledged lunatic!

From what I remember DD rolled over at about 3 months once or twice and but never seemed to do it again. She just to lay there happily on her back kicking.

imaginewittynamehere · 09/01/2008 20:22

DD 9.5 months - she learnt to crawl a few days later - don't think she saw the point before then as she hated being on her tummy.

She did roll over by accident about twice from about 5 months but never tried to repeat it.

deaconblue · 09/01/2008 20:34

ds was 13 weeks but I think that is quite early and was very stressful as he kept sleeping on his front.

phlossie · 09/01/2008 20:54

My ds was the total opposite of GrouchyOscar's "He loved being on his front and he didn't sit up until he was 7 mths"... Mine HATED being on his front, so didn't roll over, but sat up at 4 months!

He crawled at 8 months, but went from sitting to crawling by kind of lurching forward - though for ages he used to get stuck with one leg under him and then scream for help, which drove me mental because I couldn't leave him alone for 2 secs!

They're all so different...

minishreddie · 09/01/2008 21:10

DD 8 months and has been 'almost there, but arm in the way' for months. Also sits for ooh, about 0.5 seconds before falling in a fit of giggles...I'm very proud!

suzi2 · 09/01/2008 21:14

DS didn't do it until after he was crawling (oddly, pulled up/cruised before crawling too so all wrong!) which would have been about 10 months.

DD was 11 wks when she went from back to front and did front to back a couple of weeks earlier than that.

I think it's a nonsense milestone. If your DS is trying, or you believe he is likely to be capable (ie nothing wrong with his muscles) then I wouldn't stress and just enjoy the easy nappy changes.

suzi2 · 09/01/2008 21:17

Grouchyoscar, DD was the same at baby massage. A total nightmare!

Interesting about the sitting thing. DS hated being on his tummy and sat well at about 5 months. DD was very happy on her tummy and didn't sit well until about 7 months. They just all learn different things at different times and get there in the end.

fordfiesta · 09/01/2008 21:20

ds 7 months.... learnt to roll over, sit up and crawl within one month........ did nothing but cry until he gained this little bit of freedom! Friends ds (same age) was rolling over at 4 months..... they are all so different!?!

ChasingSquirrels · 09/01/2008 21:23

ds1 - 6m
ds2 - 6m

MammyT · 10/01/2008 11:18

Mine never really bothered rolling at all.. She was bum-shufling at 7.5 mths, crawling properly at 9.5 mths and walked at 12 mths.
