Hi all, it's 2 in the morning here and I can't sleep...my 20 month old son doesn't talk much and there are some other symptoms that concern me.

He says:
Bye bye
Ayla (his sister's name)
Car
Atte (which is thank you but doesn't sound like it)
Mama
Give

Doesn't say daddy

He also doesn't point at all but follows my hand if I point at something. If something is near him he will try and reache for it but if something is far he doesn't/can't tell me he wants it... If he wants milk or water he will bring me his sippy cup or bottle, also he sometimes holds my hand and puts it on something he wants... when in my lap he doesn't tell me if he wants to go a certain direction...

Eye contact is there but only when he is interested in something I'm saying. if I say his name he will only look at me occasionally when he is interested otherwise he will ignore it abt 70% of the time.

On the postlitive he plays with his sister, follows some instructions like get your shoes, let's go out, throw this in the bin, let's go to sleep, wait it's my turn.
He gives us kisses if he's in the mood, also bites when in a naughty mood and then laughs, he likes hugs and throwing balls, he waves and claps when we do, also raises his hands when he does something good. He does entrie twinkle twinkle little star with gestures and hums the song but no words...
.

Am I overthinking? Is not pointing at all a concern? He is only 20 months old have any of you had children with similar delays who just grew out of them. I am really concerned and worried.

Thanks

Hi there
I have an almost 4 year old son who is currently on the diagnosis path for ASD.
He was not pointing, saying words, interacting with other kids etc until he turned 3. Now he is putting 3 words sentences together, I know he was delayed but he’s getting there now. He is mixing, playing and instigating play with other kids. I remember having all the sleepless nights as I was constantly worrying about him but thankfully he has now turned a corner. I did engage with a private speech therapist and he started doing a few days in crèche and I think that the fact we were locked down for almost two years because of the pandemic didn’t help either.
Take care!

Sorry I should have added that he was referred for an ASD assessment because he was delayed and also because he has an older sister with ASD and is non verbal.

@Babydevelopment1 what was the outcome of the assessment ?
