9 month old tantrums!

Hi,

My 9 month old daughter has, for the past month or so, been having an absolute meltdown about seemingly everything! The worst is when having her nappy changed, she screams, cries, ferociously kicks out and throttles her body to the point that the mess sometimes gets all over her. I dread it every time! I’ve tried giving her a toy to distract and putting music on which she normally loves but nothing helps. She also has bad - but not quite as bad - tantrums when getting dressed and undressed, being put in the car seat or in the pram, having her nose / mouth / face / hands wiped and most other things that involve messing with her! Some days feel like one long, constant battle and sometimes I just feel so defeated and like it’s affecting her attachment to me (she looks at me like I’m actually torturing her during these very basic care tasks!).
I know lots of babies don’t like being changed but it seems like my little one can’t stand so many things and she really does go crazy and sometimes it carries on for ages. This morning I wiped her mouth after her breakfast and she was still screaming and crying a good few minutes later, despite distractions such as the tv being on and toys in front of her. I know most babies might have a little whinge but this is something else!
Help! Please tell me this is a phase and will pass!?

Definitely normal and hopefully will pass soon. It's so emotional for them they are still so young and learning to cope with development changes that happen all the time. I have a 13 month old and he can be hard work for a few weeks and then so much easier for the next few. I also find when hes learnt a new skill or is cutting a tooth his behaviour is testing. These little ones go through so much! Try and get time out when you can to recharge and step away. They all hate nappy changes and their faces wiped. Your doing great Smile

@Sash887 thank you for your message :) I know, there’s so much going on developmentally, I just get a bit overwhelmed with the frequency and severity of her reactions sometimes over things that seem so minor, but I guess to her they aren’t!
She is a little joy as long as I’m not doing any of the mentioned things, so that keeps carrying me through this (hopefully short!) phase.
Thanks again for your reply and encouragement xxx
