What's the average age for milk teeth to start to come out? And does the age they came in have any bearing on this?

Dd's just 5 so is still quite young to be losing any teeth so I'm not worried, just curious. A number of her classmates have started losing teeth and I wondered what the average age was. Dd was very late getting her teeth, she didn't get the first until she was 14 months old and I also wondered if that will mean she'll lose her teeth later.

I'm in no hurry, I love her little teeth.

May i ask how many milk teeth they get?

My dd1 lost her first teeth just as she turned 6 (in Year one), she got her first tooth through when she was 16 weeks.

She was one of the first in her class to lose a tooth so i would say that she was probably fairly early to lose her teeth and yes, she was early to get them too ...

Several children in my dd2s Reception class (ages 4 and 5) have already lost teeth which i was quite surprised about ...dd2 is most jealous and can often be found pulling at her teeth to try and get a visit from the tooth fairy

You would assume there'd be some natural longevity to the teeth so that the later they arrived the later they'd fall?

Funny, my dh asked me this question yesterday - like I'd know!! DD has just lost her first 2 teeth in last few weeks - the bottom front ones. She is 5y4mo. The new teeth had already started growing before the milk teeth fell out. These were in fact the first milk teeth that came through when she was about 4 mo old.

Dentists have told me that it is linked - the later they come in the later they fall out.

My dd got her first at 13 months and lost it 2 months ago at 6yrs 4mths, the second one is wobbly now

ds2 didn't get a single tooth until he was 13 months old - last milk teeth didn't come through until he was gone 3 - he then started complaining about general tooth pain at around 5 - took him to the dentist and she told me it was teething pains!! but despite that he was the last child in his class to lose a tooth - it wasn't until just after his 7th birthday - although they have been coming out thick and fast since then

Both ours had 2 by 5 months but ds was 6 1/2 and dd almost 6 before they lost their first ones, so relatively later than many .

Ds is too young to be dropping teeth yet but I remember I lost my first one at 7.8 and was the last child in the world ever to have a wobbly tooth

Dd's just lost her first one at five and a bit. But some frineds of ds in year 3 still have all their milk teeth. So a huge variation.

ds is 7 in May and he's only just recently got a wobbly tooth, so I think there's a huge variation. He got his teeth in at "normal" times, so not sure that has much to do with it, tbh.

I have to say that eldest son now 14 was a very late teether and unfortunately still has many baby teeth left causing quite severe orthodontic probs

I'm thirty- and still have 2 milk teeth. So much for natural longevity, think that makes them practically superhuman?

DS is 7 and has grown 3 adult molars and has yet to lose a baby tooth. He does have 3 loose ones though. Most of his classmates have lost at least one tooth, if not more. However he is the youngest in his class by over a year in some cases. His first tooth came in at 11 months.
Dd got first tooth a little earlier. She is 5 and has one adult molar almost all the way in and has not yet lost any baby teeth.
My grandfather grew in some of his adult molars in his 70's.

DD is 5y9m and so far hasn't lost any baby teeth. Much to her annoyance as retty much all her friends have, including some younger than her. She didn't get any teeth until 13 months.

ds lost his first tooth before christmas & the 2nd this week. he'll be 6 at the end of the month. i think he got his first tooth at 7 months, but wouldn't swear to it (and he's my pfb ).

I was quite surprised (and a little worried) when ds started losing teeth when he hit five or so, but less so when dd did the same. I can't remember when their baby teeth came through, but it wasn't late. I still have two baby teeth too.

Not until May, TigerFeet! But yes, he's getting OLD! (first tooth fell out this morning btw!)
