Hi there, I’ve posted on here a few times in hopes of getting some insight or support with little luck, so trying again with a bit more co text.
Our DD 25 mo, has displayed tic like behaviour for the last four months. Recently she has also developed ehat our neurologist has described as palilalia (she sometimes repeats the last word in a sentence). While he mentioned this could be a toddlerism it is also considered a vocal tic and if persisting for over a year, along with the motor tics, which have waxed and waned, can meet the criteria for Tourette’s syndrome. My husband and I both have OCD which we know places here at greater risk.
My question is I’ve recently also noticed some other oddities in speach which have raised some alarms and of which I have had little help in gaining answers to. The first seems to be a mis use of a word. Specifically she will use the word ‘Christmas tree’ sometimes as an adjective. So I will ask what kind of milk would you like and she’ll say “Christmas tree milk” what hat do you want to wear “Christmas tree hat” (could this be idiosyncratic speech??). This has stopped but she has now started saying the word watch for the word phone. Which I understand given that we sometimes allow her to watch shows on our iPhones. What is puzzling tho is that when we correct her or ask her to say the works phone, she says “watch”. Then we say can you say phone charger she’ll say watch charger. She does know that is a phone though since if we ask her to get the phone she will do it. And also used the word watch correctly ie “can I watch tv?”. There have also been some other random speech throughout the day. The other day for instance I came to take her out of her crib and she said “there’s a tomatoe in here”. Very odd bc she doesn’t eat tomatoes and of course no tomatoes in crib. I have also noticed some echolalia but it’s not often and know that this can be developmentally appropriate?
Otherwise we have scored 0 on the MCHat. She is very very social and great with other kids (always wanting to play and share). Has over 500 words and makes 5-7 word sentences. People have described her as “busy” but she is pretty easy going most of the times. I say this bc I’m worried this could be more than a tic disorder.
Any thoughts or experience would be so appreciated,
A very worried first time mom.
