Acute sense of smell

This may seem a bit strange but my 2.5 yr old dd has a very keen sense of smell - she picks up eveything which can be embarrassing sometimes ("Mummy why does that lady smell" etc.)! Does anyone else experience the same? Is this unusual. She is very normal in every other way!

My ds also has very acute sense of smell. Always commenting on smells and very interested in the smells of food, perfumes, bath stuff etc. Great breath tester first thing in the morning, always quick to remind me if I haven't brushed my teeth! However, if he smells something he deems yukky, then he gets a bit unstuck. We went to a friends for lunch and they got out some very ripe camembert and ds got so distressed by the honk that he barfed all over their floor! If he catches a wiff of dog or cat poo (not to mention his baby sister's nappies) he also starts retching, so we try to avoid stinky situations these days.
Maybe we should all be encouraging these super sniffers into careers as wine tasters or perfumiers.
