6 month old missing his mouth when trying to suck thumb or put food to mouth - is this normal?

DS2 is almost 7 months. We started weaning at 6 months and he's doing pretty good being spoon fed. But we've also done baby-led weaning and he will pick up the food and inspect it. On the odd occasions he's gone to put something to his mouth but missed, so I assume he gives up trying.

Similarly, he will go to suck his thumb but miss. Sometimes he gets it in. Is this lack of hand eye coordination common at this age? His eyesight seems ok as he will track an obkect if I move it about.

I've tried Googling it but the results aren't quite related to what I'm searching.

If I give him finger food and put it to his mouth, he will be interested. I'll leave it in his hand and he quickly loses interest.

DS1 swiped at food and smooshed it to his mouth at the first chance. I know all babies are different but should I be concerned?

My DD would miss her mouth sometimes. If her bib got in between her food and her mouth, she would have no idea what was going on and would just be confused. She's 20 months now and totally fine.
