5 week old, breastfed and snacking

I am breastfeeding my 5 week old baby and she is sometimes feeding on the hour but only for 5 minutes or so. She is usually like this in the morning and either does back to sleep or becomes disinterested. Through the night she wakes up and often only feeds for 5 minutes and then goes back to sleep and is waking at 5am hungry.

Any ideas on how to overcome this? I am using a dummy which helps sometimes, but at night she spits it out and cries.

Hello custard

Maybe she's trying to increase your milk supply a bit? I'm not a bf expert so might have it all wrong but do recall that ds would go crazy on my boobs for a few days at a time and hv said he was probably trying to increase how much milk was available as his needs were getting bigger along with him.

DS never fed for long either, but I agree with what Mommalove said- if she's thriving I wouldn't worry.

We also gave our ds a dummy and it wasn't until he was about 12 weeks I think that he learnt how to keep it in his mouth. And even longer of course before he could pop it back in himself if he dropped it! He was in a moses basket next to our bed and I found that gently rocking that worked ok to soothe him in the night. Otherwise I was going to be awake every 10 mins popping his dummy back in

Good luck- well done on getting this far with the bfing.

Congrats from me too...

Make sure your latch is okay and then just go with it. It will even out eventually.
