OK this isn’t a trans thread, sorry if you’re after a bunfight.
DS (v nearly 5yo) has this weird thing that he NEVER uses female pronouns in conversation.
In other respects he uses pronouns correctly (he, him, his, it, they etc) but always, always refers to girls/women as him/his.
He knows the correct pronouns, he just never uses them in a sentence.
So we might have a conversation like:
DS “I was playing with Sally, we played with his toys.”
Me “Is Sally a boy or a girl?”
DS “A girl”
Me “So is it his or her?”
DS “Her”
Me “Ok”
DS “…so, we were playing with his toys, and he had a dinosaur.”
We saw an SLT at one point about other issues and she picked it up and noted it was unusual but we didn’t have chance to go into it.
I don’t know if it’s something we should be concerned about, but it’s just really odd. Can anyone throw any light on why he seems to be stuck in this. I know toddlers can take a while to master pronouns but this has been going on for ages.
