Tip Toe Walking 17 Month Old

My LO has never 'walked' flat footed. Even when holding him by his hands/waist or when he's cruising he is ALWAYS on his tip toes. Today, to our surprise he started 'walking' and it was still on his tip toes. I'm pleased he is confidently walking (well for 30 seconds) but just worried why he is doing this.
My HV is aware and has referred us to be seen by Podiatry/Orthotics. He has also had an x-ray to check his pelvis, thankfully that came back normal.
I have been worried about the link to ASD and tip toe walking. Everything I have read seems to mention that ASD children can walk flat footed but then suddenly start to tip top walk. With my LO he's never walked flat footed. I should mention I do have a few concerns about him being on the spectrum - one being lack of words and the other gestures.

Has anyone gone through this with their child? Any help or advise is much appreciated. Apologies if my post doesn't make sense.

All children will tiptoe as some stage, it's part of normal development. On its own, the link between tiptoeing and autism is very weak unless there is other concerns in things like receptive language (understanding), non verbal communication (gesturing), social referencing, etc.

Agree with the above - if there are additional issues with eye contact, expression and lack of babbling or words then perhaps keep ASD on your radar xx
