Hello all

My health visitor just scared me a lot today

So my two week old was checked and she said one leg appears longer than the other so she is making a referral for a scan

She said she may need to wear a brace for months 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

Anyone any experience?

I haven't had any experience sorry @Queenie6655.

Did they give you any idea of how long it may be before she's seen?

Hi, my baby was diagnosed with ddh at birth checks last year. At 2 weeks old we had an ultrasound that confirmed it and dd was put straight into a pavliks harness. I'd never heard of it before but it turns out it's extremely common and lots of people I know have experienced it.

We had the harness on for 8 weeks then we had the all clear with healthy looking hips, we need a check up at 1 year but fingers crossed everything is well and it hasn't affected her development so far. She isn't allowed to use walkers, jumperoos etc (these aren't recommended even for healthy hips) but otherwise we treat her as normal now.

I would push for the scan ASAP as the harness has much higher success rates when used as early as possible and hopefully avoids the need for operations later on.

I'm on a couple of great Facebook groups (Steps Charity and DDH Uk) and there are lots of parents in the same boat with amazing support and advice.

Fingers crossed your scan comes back clear. Feel free to ask any questions, I found the hospital weren't always that great at explaining things so I've done a lot of research on my own.
