14 month old not walking alone

My DD is almost 14 months old. She will walking holding onto my hand, cruises along furniture well, stands alone but she isn't walking alone yet.

Should I be worried? She didn't crawl until 10 months it's as though she's really cautious and just won't do things until she is 100% confident?

She is saying around 8 words and understands lots eg she can't identify animals and objects from her flash cards by pointing to the correct one when asked? Maybe she's just taking longer with the physical side? When should I get in touch with my HV?

Sorry should say she can identify objects on the flash cards!

She sounds fine - 18 months is when the HV would want to get involved so lots of time. She probably just needs to build her confidence up. A good tip is encouraging her to stand against the sofa with her back to it so she has the support without holding on and then after a few time doing that sit a bit in front of her and try and encourage her to move towards you. She needs to lose the association with taking steps while holding on. It will come :)

She sounds lovely Smile

My DD didn’t crawl until 10.5 months, took her first steps at 15 months and then took a month before she was walking confidently. Like PP said, she probably just needs to build her confidence Smile

I was like you, I drove myself insane. Then the week before he was 15 months on Christmas Day, we were just playing on the floor he used my finger to pull himself up and turned to me and walked. I was in utter disbelief that it even happened. So please don't worry, it will and you won't expect it. In fact I found that the moment I stopped fixating on it and worrying, he did it haha

My son had issues with putting his foot down. The paediatric said 16months is when they start to investigate. My son didn't walk till 16months but couldn't walk with out a foot support till he was 22 months. Is hard because you feel so helpless that they're not our running with their peers but making holes in the knee area on their jeans.

My son took a couple of steps at 16 month but we really had to encourage him. He didn’t walk spontaneously until a couple of days before he was 18 months old. Now at 19 months he is running!

My child could stand long before their first birthday but didn’t walk until 15 months. Absolutely no stopping them once they started.
