Brushing 7 month old's teeth

My 7 mo has a few teeth just coming through. Should I be brushing them ? He is on solids & breast. Does it matter if he swallows the toothpaste ? Any tips on getting him to co-operate - I''m sure he will just try & chew the toothbrush & eat the paste !!

Me too, me too! Exactly the same dilemma and everything. I bought him his own toothbrush and some strawberry toothpaste. I put the teeniest tiniest smear on it and hope he chews it - sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't.

We used to put the toothpaste on a cloth (muslin or something soft!) and just rub it over dd's teeth to get her used to the taste/sensation then graduated on to the toothbrush later. She's now 2.9 and still doesn't brush them by herself but will let us do it and we have finally mastered spitting out the toothpaste. I don't think it matters if they swallow it a) it's only a tiny amount and b) one would hope that the manufactures have taken the fact that babies can't spit on demand yet into account!
