How much to feed a 6 m old baby (v hungry)?

I wonder if you can make any suggestions.
my 6 m old baby boy is so hungry there seem no end tl his appetite. I introduced solids at 4 1/2m as his weight was shooting up from 50% to above 75% whereas his length is below 25%. He has just recovered from D&V and now is eating twice as much as before.
Recommended diet by the GP is:
-Bottle for breakfast (7 scoops)
-solids for lunch (vegs then fruits) then a bit of water or half a bottle of milk
-bottle mid afternoon

  • bottle with some veg for tea/bedtime

in reality he eats a snack mid morning with fruit then milk (6 scoops) as well as the above plan, plus full bottles rather than hlaf, and may ask for an extra one now and then.
Any suggestion to calm his appetite? He is on fruits or veg purees and C+G milk for his bottles
Thanks

Umm water with meals? DD is breastfed and massive and drinks a full cup of water with every meal. I dread to think how big she'd be if she didn't have that as well as food.

Mind you she's about twice as tall as she should be for her age as well as twice as heavy.

If he has had D&V he may well be quite dehydrated.

Can you not give him what he wants ie as much milk as he wants to drink first and then solids after? Milk is far more important than food at this age.

If he wants 9 ounces, then give him 9 ounces. Milk will fill him up more and provide more nutrients than fruit and veg.

The other option is to give him protein and carbs now that he is 6 months. They are more filling than veg and fruit.

at 6 months my ds had 5 bottles - 4 day ones and 1 night one. He only went down to 4 bottles at 8 months when he gave up his night feed. If your lo wants more milk then give it and you could also try giving more starchy solids e.g. pasta, bread, potatoes, etc.

I also gave milk seperate from meals so he didnt cut down on his milk so quickly but would still have room for solids e.g.

7am -milk
8am -breakfast
11am -milk
12pm -lunch
3pm -milk
5pm -dinner
7.15pm -milk
up to 8 months - night feed of milk

wow, that's quick, thanks for your prompt replies.

It sounds like I cut the milk down too quickly as DS was taking a bit of solids 9fruits and veg purees). I thought DS was taking too much formula milk, as his weight shot up when my milk supply went down and I introduced formula milk in his 4th month.

I am going to give him more milk and try to give him 3 meals with solids, between his bottles, like Seona did.

DH gave him lots of water today to try settle him, as DS was crying a lot, but he only settled once we gave in and made him extra bottles, he then settled and fell asleep for his nap straight away

Thanks.
