Can the terrible twos come early?

13 mo DD has always been high needs but the last month has been pure hell. She tantrums over anything and everything from the time she wakes up until she goes to bed. I'm on eggshells and constantly looking out for the next thing that will piss her off. She's hitting and scratching, and rolling about and kicking when she has a tantrum. Please someone tell me this is the terrible twos come early, because I CANNOT imagine things getting any worse and dealing with it. She has always been slightly ahead in terms of milestones and her communication is quite good for her age- could this mean she's just ahead in terms of tantrums etc as well? Thank youuu

Oh gosh yes, all mine started having tantrums shortly after they turned one years old. I had to learn to be very patient!

So mine isn’t 2 yet, but months 10-15 ish were hellish. He was just permanently furious with the world and spent all day fussing, whinging or crying. After an awful first year it nearly broke me.

He’s nearly 20 months now and it’s so much better. He’s still quite highly strung and is more easily set off than other kids his age, but in between these moments, he’s a gorgeous, chatty joy and time with him is actually pretty easy. Similar to your DD, he also fully fits the High Needs Baby description and his communication/social development is way ahead of expected (motor is pretty average). I think he just hated the constraints of being a baby! I hope that gives you some hope.

I remember that things improved when they could walk well and had more freedom and independence to get things they wanted themselves.

My DS is nearly 13 months and I swear he's been throwing tantrums for a month or so. Screams and rolls around the on the floor. I'm glad it's not just us!
