Hi,
My dd is driving me mad. She’s bored ALL of the time she her xmas. She’s had everything she wanted over xmas but nothing particularly to play with (she’s had clothes, books, makeup and jewellery etc) she’s had a friend over to play, she’s baked and decorated buns with me today, we went to family for xmas dinner and today and Boxing Day we haven’t done anything, I just wanted to relax.
Well she’s got a face like a slapped arse, she’s sulking and so bored that she’s crying. Hi ce said she could have a friend round, we could watch a film, paint each other’s nails, read a book, told her to FaceTime a friend or play on the Nintendo switch and she refuses to do anything I suggest but then just continues to sit there sulking. Eventually I’ve sent her away to her room as she’s driving me mad but I feel so guilty that she feels bored and sad. Please tell me I’m not on my own and just what the hell is wrong with her?!

I'd stop feeling guilty. I think there's too much pressure on us now to keep them entertained. It's actually good for children to be bored and can help them be creative.

I made a decision fairly early on that if mine ever said they were bored I'd get them to do a really boring household task like clean the smirking boards.

DD (14) wondered in the other day abs said she was bored. I only got as far as saying "Oh good! I could just do with someone.." when she hurriedly said she'd made a mistake, she wasn't bored and hurried off to start some baking.

Just stop thinking of yourself as the source of all entertainment. She's old enough to entertain herself for long periods of time
