3 month old using one arm/hand more than the other

Morning everyone,

FTM here and not sure if I'm over worrying or what! My little girl is just over 3 months old and I've noticed she uses 1 arm/hand a lot more than the other
She still uses the other but it doesn't seem to be as much.

Any advice?

Thanks x

My wee one was like that but once she got older she uses both now xx

Might be they are right handed if using this one more or left handed if it’s the left. Baby is still a baby I wouldn’t worry about it

How long has she been favouring one hand? If it's relatively recent, I'd give it a little time – babies do lots of weird things as they're figuring out how their bodies work. If it persists and it's a big difference between the two, I'd get in touch with your health visitor or GP for a quick check just to be sure. Obvious right- or left-handedness doesn't usually appear until a child is older, usually after a year, I think.

DD did that and I was utterly convinced she had cerebral palsy (birth complications meant this was a possibility) and then one day she started using the other one and not the first arm 🙄. Needless to say she doesn't have cerebral palsy, she was just figuring out how to use one arm at a time. According to her pediatric unit, it's entirely normal baby development - I wouldn't worry x

Thank you all for your replies, really appreciate it! HV is coming to weigh her Tuesday so will mention it x

I read this thread when my baby was around 3 months with the same concerns..

The 'preference' lasted around 2 months but now he uses both hands equally. Just wanted to reassure whoever is reading this that more often than not this is a completely normal stage of development.. ♥️
