Blu · 20/12/2007 15:39

I don't think any kind of train is for boys only!

fortyplus · 20/12/2007 15:40

When ds2 was 2 I bought him a Barbie and some fairy wings

Egg · 20/12/2007 15:40

Ridiculous thing for people to say. If you DD likes trains or cars etc then it's a great present. My DS loves his toy pushchair and his doll, as well as being obsessed with cars.

GrimmaTheNome · 20/12/2007 15:40

Huh? why should a train be only for boys?

I didn't realise my DD wanted one actually, her lovely nanny did and bought her one. She still plays with it occasionally and she's nearly 9.

bookofchristmascarolsmum · 20/12/2007 15:41

Remind them that we're in 2007 .

I bought my dd a trainset for her 2nd birthday and had much the same reaction. The little boy next door was really jealous as it was a Thomas the Tank Engine set!!

Chaotica · 20/12/2007 16:30

DD loves trains, and cars, and tractors, and planes, and helicopters... (I could go on) (She also loves her teddy )

mumeeee · 20/12/2007 18:12

DD2 loved trians when she was little and we bought her a thomas the tank engine set when she was 5.

She'll love it, ignore the stupid prejudiced people.

wheelybahhumbug · 20/12/2007 18:15

dd had her first bit of brio at 1.

I wish the amazing animal train was out when dd was a bit smaller I think its ace

ELF1981 · 20/12/2007 18:17

DD got one for her first birthday as well as a fisher price garage. She loved them.

Hulababy · 20/12/2007 18:20

Lots of little girls like trains sets, etc. DD loved the train set part of her Happy Land village.

IorekByrnison · 20/12/2007 18:21

AARGH!!! Is this really still an issue? Tell the stupid people to feck off back to 1950.

DD loves trains more than anything. She may of course grow up to be a big dungaree-wearing lesbo. And good for her if she does.

Marne · 20/12/2007 18:29

We have bought dd a train set and a tool kit for x-mas.

Christywhisty · 20/12/2007 18:31

DD 10 had the happy land one when she was little and now wants a Hornby!

Acinonyx · 20/12/2007 19:36

Dd (2.5) is getting a workbench and toolkit for Xmas. I was thinking about a train set - but I've blown the budget now!

tastychristmaspud · 20/12/2007 21:16

thanks dd is only 6 months, i did't think anything of getting her a train, just thought it was lovely with all the animals
its a bit annoying everyone pulling a face going youve got her a train !?
but ill take the advice and smile sweetly and say yes we not in the 1950s now are we, to the next person that turns there nose up

although my family are quite sexist my brother wouldn't let me buy his boy a play lawnmower and hoover set, the one in argos where you get both for 20 quis as he thought it would make him gay

lucyellensmum · 20/12/2007 21:34

do they really say that??

My DD (2.5) is getting a hotwheels superdooper loopy looper car munching pteradactyl car track, multiple cars, trains etc for xmas. When we ask her what she wants for xmas, she says "car" or "ellow car". She about wet her pants when she saw the car track at toys r us. She is getting a Thomas the tank aquadraw and a few other bits and pieces. Not a dolly in sight. Ive tried to get her interested in dollies but she doesnt like them, she just says "nah" or "dont like dollies".

She does like my little pony though

I think it is very natural to want to play with cars and trains, they actually DO something, even if that is just roll along the floor. What do Dolls actually do? I would actually like DD to play with dolls as it obviously helps with imagination but she prefers talking to and cuddling up her trains!

She has a super thomas train set (£1 charity shop bargain) and i have to say, her absolute bestest, knockout xmas present this year is her remote control thomas with pretend steam effect. She ADOREs this and thankyou once again to the mumsnet secret santa who sent this too her. Whenever we have visitors she insists on demonstrating, and i have to say, most of my visitors can;t wait to have a go!

tastychristmaspud · 20/12/2007 21:40

yes he really said no i don't want you to buy him that.

also my other brother has two children, girl[oldest] and boy, so there ds likes to play with girls stuff, just because its around iyswim
they brought him a macho man outfit for his birthday it had big muscley arms, he turns round and says ohh boobies lol putting the arms in his chest pretending they where boobies
lol i nearly wet myself as i knew they'd be stressing over it

My BIL is like this. Last Xmas we were at a party, and BIL's DS was there, along with a girl cousin. His DS wanted to wear his female cousins pink wellies, and BIL went MAD! He even spoke to the nursery about how unhappy he was that it was written in his DS's book that he enjoyed playing with the cleaning toys at play time.

tastychristmaspud · 21/12/2007 08:55

lol what are these pratts like eh ?
