DS been involved in 5 incidents today at nursery

DS has always been a pretty chilled out (we have had the odd up and down but nothing major)

however he is now 18 months old and he seems to have embraced toddlerdom whole heartedly over the past couple of weeks

we are firm with him at home - all hair pulling/biting etc is met with a firm no (we get down to his level)

He has never done any hitting etc at nursery until today, when he has pushed a child over three times, bitten another one, and pulled the hair of another child

these incidents were unprovoked - i feel awful and upset as DS has been bitten four times at nursery so i know how it feels on the other side

feel like i am doing something wrong - any ideas or advice as to how to handle this behaviour would be hugely appreciated

sweetheart he's only a baby, and probably had a bad day. The staff need to watch him to prevent these incidences.

have spoken at length with the staff and they have all said how out of character it is for him

I'd try not to worry, as colditz said, he is only a baby, and I would expect that all the kids he did it to have done it to others at some point. All kids havebad days, Justask them to keep an eye so you can be sure it doesn't become a habit.

My ds went through a stage of this at 18 months, although he did have a new sister to contend with. It did last for approx 4 months and now he back to his normal self with a couple of tantrums here and there.

Please don't beat yourself up. I expect when you are in control of him around other children you can now read the signs and distract/remove. It's obviously come as a surprise to nursery staff because it hasn't happened before - next time at nursery they should be more alert to prevent it happening. It's normal behaviour. You're doing the right things. It doesn't make him bad or you a bad parent.

Toddlers go through these stages - it's perfectly normal. Sometimes they're tired and ratty, or teething, or unwell, and they just don't have the capacity to be 'good'. Other times they are just plain mischevious and high spirited. It's all a stage, and as hard as it is, try not to worry too much about it.

He's still tiny.
Be consistent, as you already are.
It'll be someone else's turn next week.

Put it out of your mind. Tbh I am surprised you were told all this as he is as someone said a baby and that's what they do.
