Strange sleeping position in 2.5yr old

Ds is 2.5 and has started doing something slightly odd at bedtime. He is putting his hands over his eyes and sleeping face down in mattress. He says he likes it and it's too light on his eyes. There has been some talk of monsters and baddies recently so I asked him if something was bothering him but he said No. I asked him if he'd like a night light but he said he likes it dark to sleep. Anyone else experienced this? I guess my main concern is being face down in mattress but of course he rolls over once he's dozing off.

My dd slept like this from the time she was about 8months old right up until she was 3 - she's 3.5 now and sometimes still sleeps with her face in the mattress and her bottom in the air. To be honest, it wasn't something that I was bothered about; I was told by my HV that once they're old enough to roll, they're safe to sleep in whatever position they chose.

He seems to be telling you that his room is too light, and he prefers it dark to sleep - maybe you could try some black-out curtains or liners, or throw a thick blanket or towel over his curtain rail and see if that makes any difference to him.
