4 month old screaming after bath

Hi everyone,

Just after a bit of advice!

My 4 month old hates coming out of the bath ever since he was born, but I feel like it's getting worse! We have tried warming up a towel, dressing gown straight after, unfragranced soap, make sure the water is correct temp etc, cuddles after but he still screams as if someone is trying to kill him after a bath! It's very distressing!

Has anyone else experienced this at all?? It makes me terrified to give him a bath! 😬😬

My son was like this, maybe a bit older. And my daughter was like this at your baby's age.

For my son it was difficulty with transitioning so he needed lots of warning he was coming out of the bath. Still does. It's easier now he is older and can understand language. But at that a younger age we would need to prepare him with an object of reference. So I would show him the towel, then sing 3 nursery songs in an exact order so that he could hear it coming. I would let him take out two bath toys with him so he still had a bit of the bath with him on his transition. The warm towel etc. And the put his favourite YouTube video on to distract him once out so I could dry and dress him.

My DD at age 4 months wasn't so bad as my son, but she did protest about coming out. Just the taking the bath toys was enough for her to manage the transition xxx

Yes. My DS was exactly like this at 4 months. I think baths were just too overstimulating at the end of the day when he was tired and cranky and he just couldn’t cope at that point. He used to scream like he did when he had colic, it was awful, Nothing made a difference other than time. We cut out the bath as part of the night time routine and re-introduced at about 8 months and he was completely fine and has been ever since.
