My dd suffers with chronic constipation. I'm guessing she got constipated once, didn't like the pain and then started holding on to it. My HV has actually been V good and dd now has half a dose of movicol in her drink everyday and she seems nearly back to normal - has been going on for more than a year though. Speak to your HV, hopefully they will be helpful

Definitely go and see your doctor, my child is also on Movicol every day, we had lactulose first but it wasn't effective.

My child had a painful poo back in August and is still with-holding her poo.

It is a very long process and there is no quick fix solution. Be very calm and patient with her, the doctor told me not to be cross or tell them off (although I wouldn't have done this anyway) as this would make them worse.

I have just got the following book out of the library which has been interesting to read. "Constipation, Withholding and your child" by Anthony Cohn.

My DD is also on Movicol. It can a long time to get this sorted. This March she will have been on it for 2 years. But everytime I try to wean her off it the problem comes back.

I agreee you ned to get referred to a peadatrician as I believe the delay in getting a referral is why DD is still on Movicil 2 years later. I moved house and within 3 weeks of seeing my new GP we were at the hospital seeing the pead at old GP!
