How much should a 12 month old babble

Hi everyone,
Im having some concernes regarding my baby’s babble. He started early at around 6M with mamama, and that lasted untill 9M when he added others consonants like b,t,n,p. What really concernes me is the fact that he doesnt babble much. Maybe 4-5 times a day for a minute or so. Is that enough? Is there someone whose baby didnt babble much and how was their speech development? Olso he is not using much variegated babbling and definitely not jargon. Would really like to hear your experiences.

My DD didn't babble much but she was speech delayed.

I can't remember how much she did babble at this age but there's a useful progress checker from ICan here.

I hope you find it helpful Thanks

Hi @PanicBuyingSprouts I hand a similar concern with my 11 month old DS. Is there a link to an 11 month questionnaire? I've had a look but couldn't find anything.

Thanks 😊

@Blues1 unfortunately I don't know of an 11 month one sorry.

@Rainyday33 she didn't speak anything really until she was 3.

Hi everyone, just wanted to update this thread because I really like seeing the outcomes in different cases. Anyway, my son is 22 month old now and his speech is great. His first word was mama at 13M, following by dada and animal and car noises. He had about 30 words at 18M. And now it is too many to count. His speech development really exploded in the last month. Now he can talk in 2-3 word sentences and repeats everything. Thanks everybody for replies and best of luck with your children. My advice is not to over analyse everything as I did.

I had concerns about my son too. They recommended he should be able to say around 250 words at the stage he was at the time - he was nowhere near that.

I knew I was worried too much at the time and that everyone develops differently. But still as a mum I think most mums have "concerns" about stuff unnecessarily!

Now he is coming up to 3 soon and he says so much and small sentences. He's smart and adorable (most the time....). It was like he changed over night pretty much. It was a relief.
