SLT refusing to help with stammer

HI my son has a stammer he is 3 started after he just turned 3 so has been about 5 months. It has gotten to the point that he now notices his stammer and gets angry or says he can say what he wants to say and moves on to a another conversation.

Now told slt about this as he was under them for delayed speech and also transitioning from one activity to another and also not being able to interact with other children.

They do now see it as a problem and want to discharge us, I have tried all the techniques that they suggested and they wont help us with the stammer no the other issues he has. They simply state he can speak fine there is nothing wrong. However, they say if he still gets worse in 3 month we can re refer however it took us a year to get this slt and that was delayed speech any help??

Thanks

Gosh that does sound frustrating. I've got experience of delayed speech but not a stammer. If you look through the archives you might be able to find some old threads on stammering.

Think I'd try to insist that they keep seeing him if you can. If they want you to rerefer in 3 months can you ask them to just give you another appointment in 3 months instead to check on his progress?

Sadly though, they may be under pressure to reduce the number of children that they are seeing abs want to discharge DS instead.
