19mo sleep is getting worse

My 19mo has never slept well, recently we’ve had nights of sleeping through (or almost through) for the first time ever and we thought we were getting somewhere, he did this 3-4 nights on the bounce then intermittently for about a month. He then reverted to ‘normal’ which is asleep around 8 and in cot, wakes around 12-2 and then in our bed with maybe 2-3 wake ups and wakes between 6-8. I can cope with that.

Recently, wow. Between the good nights the bad nights are just something else. Tonight he didn’t sleep till 9:30 and woke at 11, 2, 3, and we gave up at 4 and have come downstairs. Similar story Friday night.

He’s been ill with several viruses/colds/god knows what else for the last two months (he goes to nursery and I think it’s a knock on effect of kid’s siblings going back to school). But he’s since refusing to eat most things and very little fruit and veg, and also now won’t sleep properly.

I feel like he’s just going to continually get ill as he isn’t eating or sleeping properly but neither of these things I can force. I’m so so tired, so is my partner. Toddler is sat next to me now on the sofa at 4:30am eating a bowl of shreddies and watching tv, he’s said his ear hurts but I’m not sure how much as the cries quickly stopped once he got some food and the tv came on. It’s probably the wrong thing to do but we were both awake in bed for hours before we came down. We live in a terraced house so very conscious of ongoing loud noises at night.

I have no idea what to do, more than anything I feel like I’ve let him down because he struggles so much to sleep but in the same thought I don’t know what more I can do.

I was going to ask if he was hungry. How's his eating at Nursery and have you tried some porridge before bed?
