My 2 and a Half year old refuses to walk

My son is coming up to 2 and a half and this last month or so he refuses to walk outside of the house. He won't go into a pushchair. He's got a trike but that's not always ideal especially when shopping. He's not in pain or anything because he runs around like a whirlwind at home but as soon as we get to the front door he starts to try and climb up me and ask to be carried.
I've told him no held his hand and tried to walk with him but he either sits down in the street and cries or starts to try to climb up me again.
I try to praise him for walking but it still ends in a tantrum.
I'm at a loss, any help would be appreciated as I'm beginning to dread leaving the house with him.

It does pass eventually. Until then shopping is a bit off limits, go when his Dad or someone is there to watch him. It's a tough age but you will look back one day and think it was not actually that bad

I honestly hope so! I can honestly say I dread leaving the house with him, even when me and his dad are with him it takes everything not to give up and go home, fingers crossed it's short lived 🥺
