4 month old fussy all of the time

I'm a first time mum and wondering if this is normal behaviour..

My little one has always been on the high end of the crying scale ever since he was born I think probably due to colic. We've been using infacol pretty much since birth which has helped no end with his colic symptoms but he's now 17 weeks and is still extremely fussy. It's very tiring and getting quite stressful now. I've been told by many people that crying eases off around week 12 which it has, it's no way near how bad it was, but he still cries an awful lot. And the cry sounds so dramatic he really screams and holds his breath. I will add that he does smile a fair bit through the day and very chatty.

I've thought it could be a number of things. Sleep regression because of his age and he isn't a great sleeper/ napper. Waking after 1 sleep cycle in the day and wakes a minimum of twice during the night. Though that could be hunger because he's breastfed.
Teething because he always has his hand in his mouth and drools a lot. I'm sure I can see a little tooth under the surface too. Nothing sharp in his mouth just yet.
Growth spurt because he's 17 weeks and is already wearing size 6-9 month clothes and weighs around 17 and half pounds though he's not feeding anymore than usual.

Have any other mums had a similar experience with a very fussy 4 month old and do you have any tips on calming him down? I do worry that I haven't taken him to the GP about this problem yet and that it could be something sinister or is this just all very normal behaviour for a 4 month old?

Hey OP, when you say super fussy, is there a time in the day when he is especially so? Are his naps more routine now?
My boy is currently 4.5 month, wakes every two hours normally, on a bad day is a couple of one hours thrown in or an hour to get him back to sleep, and other days where he will do 4-5 hour stints. I go to bed with no expectations but go to bed at 9pm so at least I have a long session in bed with broken sleep! He is on the bigger end, 20ish pounds and hasn't been feeding more, although when he wakes at night I do boob him back to sleep, but they aren't full feeds, he does it mainly for comfort..
