Can someone remind what the latest "average" age for sitting up is........

I know it's all very loosely made these ideals of when they "should" be doing certain stuff - but having had 2 DS's who were both sitting unaided at 5 months - I have no idea what the "latest" sort of age for learning this skill is.......and I don't want to start fretting about DS3 not sitting up yet if he's still well within the "average" age for doing it....

6 months is the norm.

My dd was 8 months before she could sit unaided. There was no problems, just abit slower that normal. She crawled a few weeks later and was up and walking at a year. I would worry all children are different.

thanks - was just about to add "what age did your DC sit up"

DS1 sat early but - did virtually bgger all until he was 11 months old (and didn't walk until he was 18 months - he's still a lazy little sd at times LOL).

DS2 sat early, crawled at 7 months, walked at 10 months

So DS3 being nearly 6 1/2 months and not sitting unaided has flumoxed me - so wondered what was "normal".

(he can roll over - in one direction onto his tummy - can't get back though - and has started pulling his knees under his bottom a little).

No really concerned - but wasn't sure what age I should start being slightly so

I would have thought 9 months too for sitting

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 10/12/2007 11:40

Ds2 was 4 and a bit months, which was earlier than Ds1, but now at 6 months he won't sit alone any more. That is to say he can, and does occasionally, but most of the time seems to be pretending to have forgotten how, possibly to get more picking up

I thought the average was about 6 months but it varies muchly either way. Don't worry yet.

witchandchips · 10/12/2007 11:48

think 6 mo average but not til around 9 mo that you can stop surounding lo with cushions in case they try to reach something and slip. Around 9/10 mos they can sit up then move into crawling position and then back again (iyswim)

TheIceQueen · 10/12/2007 11:52

ahh - thanks - so DS1 and 2 were just early birds then LOL.

All 3 of mine were around 5-6 months but I make fat little beanbag babies who spread out nicely on the floor when you sit them down

TheIceQueen · 10/12/2007 11:57

lol DCD - DS3 is the biggest of all of mine (although they were all big by the time they hit 6 months)

Who says this parenting malarky is easy when you've already had one or two of them

3rd babies like to keep you on your toes

VanillaPumpkin · 10/12/2007 21:30

DD2 was just 5 months and I thought that was early at the time.

Snowmond · 10/12/2007 21:40

My DD is 5.5 months and can't sit yet, cant remember when DD1 first sat unaided

LiegeAndLief · 11/12/2007 12:41

Ds sat unaided 2 days before his 8 month check. Never rolled, didn't crawl until 13 months, but walked not long after at 14 months which seemed fairly average amoung his peers - they're all different and do things at their own pace! (although didn't stop me worrying that ds was never going to be able to move )

Mawma · 11/12/2007 12:43

about 6m, ds was 5m and dd was 6m, but my nephews were all 9m

nappyaddict · 11/12/2007 12:58

my ds was 10 months. at 8 month check hv said they wouldn't worry until he was 13 months.
