Dd is 2.5 and has developed a strong dislike of anyone invading her personal space. She has a few regulare toddler friends who will sometimes try to hug her or hold her hands, sometimes a bit of mild rough play, and she really screams and objects as though she were being attacked. 3 months ago or so she would have happily hugged and kissed these same friends.
I'm at a loss how best to deal with this. OTOH I don't want her to think she is obliged to let others touch her in any way. But her reaction is excessive and very offputting to her pals. I'm trying to get her to 'just say no' instead of screaming, but although no is her favourite word these days it's not working in this instance. I don't know how best to play this situation.
Any advice or similar experience? And what would you expect if you were a parent of the other child?
