When did your baby start pointing?

A bit worried as my DS hasn’t started this yet (10 months.)

He babbles and says ma ma da da ba and can clap, laugh, responds to his name. So probably nothing. Just wondering when your babies started this?

Don't worry – he's got loads of time yet. My DD started around 11 months, but amongst the people I know and reading on here, it seems like most babies start pointing between 13-16 months. I don't think it's actually considered late until 18 months.

Daughter is 11.5 months and not pointing, I’m not concerned at all, she babbles, claps, waves, follows simple commands, very interactive. 10 months would be early for pointing I would have thought! He sounds fine Smile

Thanks, that is reassuring. He claps and babbles and shakes his head ‘no’ (although not sure he understands what it means but he does it when you say no, usually with a huge grin!) but he isn’t waving yet, despite me waving at him loads. That is another thing I’ve noticed.

That’s reassuring then about the pointing. At swimming I seem to be surrounded by babies pointing at everything!

My daughter started pointing at 9.5 months but I wouldn’t call it declarative pointing, she was just pointing randomly. Now at 12 mo that she points out things of interest and if she wants something like her cup.

16.5 months - just to sway the balance the other way!

My DS started pointing the evening after his 12 month check with HV, at which I had said I was worried about him not pointing yet. Hmm little joker!
