Is it normal to chew/suck/bite things THIS much??

DS is 11 months old and literally chews/sucks anything he can get his hands on, and has been this way since he was about 6 months old. Now I know it's normal to a degree, and it's teething etc, but it just seems to be v extreme and relentless with my DS. He's got 8 teeth, and no sign of the next ones, but there never seems to be a break in teething symptoms. He doesn't 'play' with toys as they're intended; he just chews them. Books, household objects, cutlery etc too. We go to baby classes and he just chews on the props rather than properly engaging in the class. He also carries stuff in his mouth, like a dog. He also tries to bite me a lot (any exposed skin!)

I'm just slightly concerned this is odd behaviour - anyone else's babies the same??

Could it be a sensory issue where he needs to chew or mouth things?

If he's chewing the props, have you tried offering him a teething toy instead?

Agreed sounds like a sensory issue. Worth getting lots of things he can safely chew on.

Thanks for your replies... sorry to sound stupid but what do you mean by a sensory issue?

There's a bit more on sensory issues here.

That article does say that it's perfectly normal at this age though and only needs further assessment after 18 months.
