useful present ideas for a 14 mth old-ideas?

DS's Grandad wants to get something "useful" for DS for Christmas, anyone recommend anything? I think I have everything I need but I thought that 6 mths ago and seem to have still managed to spend a fortune over the last 6 mths as new neccessities arise
Ideas I've had so far - ear thermometer, are they any good? DS is a wriggler, under arm is a no no-can't get anything like an accurate reading, we usually do bottom ones which terrifies me as I'm sure he is going to impale himself one day!
Or a lightweight buggy? Are they worth it? We have a mamas and papas pliko at the moment and that has always been fine for our regular flights we take up to now, the lightweight ones never look particularly comfortable to me, I would still want him to be able to have a comfortable doze- what do you think?

hi gio71! you could always go for a chicco no touch baby thermometer you just hold it near the his head. my son like the clicking sound it makes while a reading is being taken. and as for the light weight puch chair they are ok and have there place ie a quick trip round the shops but i always found my bigger buggie was better for bigger shopping trips.

failing that clothes are always useful they always need them!!

bottoms not surprised he wriggles!
do the hand touch forehead/back of neck thing myself... more reliable than thermometer.
How about clothes in next size up?/ toys next age up?

If you don't have them already waterproof dungarees are GREAT for a new walker - means you can take them in the garden / field etc. and not worry about getting their clothes sodden and ruined even if they fall over.

Dungarees last longer than all in ones as they're more adjustable and you can put any ordinary coat over the top. DS has Rukka waterproofs from littletrekkers.co.uk Can't recommend highly enough.
