Speech development

Hello lovely mums!

I have a 15 month old and am concerned about her speech, she has seen a consultant as she was born with tongue tie but he said she has grown out of it and everything seems normal. But it hasn’t stopped me from (mainly being impatient) worrying about DD.

From 9 months old she started making “baba” and “mama” sounds and since 12 months old she pretty much only says “dadada”. She’s gone really shy with sounds but whispers them as she’s playing. She doesn’t mimic anything we say or any animal noises but she can follow instructions really well and understands most of what we say.

Can anyone reassure me that this is normal and if their child done this? I’m really hoping that she’s just shy/nervous and that she starts talking by 18 months old....she’s been really early with anything physical such as walking and climbing so maybe that’s taken up all her focus! Maybe she just doesn’t have confidence yet to talk?

Hi,

I also have a 15 month boy who is very good at listening, pointing and understanding what i ask him for example "give me the book" he also babbles mama, dada and a few other random sounds but is not speaking yet. I am not worried at all as i think for his age he is doing well and talking will come when he is ready. Smile
