What's the latest anyone's dc has started walking?

23 month old ds is 2 in 2 weeks and STILL not walking. I am not worried especially, since he can clearly weightbear and has been cruising for about 5 months. He just hates letting go and will only walk for 2 steps max unaided before he falls over. He won't walk with us very often, just says no and sits down.
I also recognise that it's partly his personality - he is very stubborn. But the longer it goes on, I keep thinking 'surely he will start any day now...?' and then e doesn't!
The gp says not to worry and bring him back when he's two - rapidly approaching! Any positive late walker stories to reassure me please?

friends lad bum-shuffled for 2 and a half years. We thought he would never get up. Wore lots of holes in trousers too!

cory · 07/12/2007 20:41

My dd did not walk until 19 months- but I'm afraid we did later find out it was due to an inherited joint disorder. In fact, she has only just had to relearn how to walk, at age 11 (!), as she wasn't doing it correctly. So I suppose this could count as a very late walker, if not the positive post you were hoping for...

My sister walked at about 24, 25 months, and even then only reluctantly. My own dd2 only just got up, at 20 months, and she will only do so if it's made into a game. She'd much rather bumshuffle the rest of the time!

WendyWeber · 07/12/2007 20:46

Not quite that late, but DD2 was 19 months and was a very insecure walker for a while thereafter. She didn't even crawl until 12 months either. No physical probs at all - just late - HTH

expatinscotland · 07/12/2007 20:46

DD1 was 2.

DD2 was about 21 months and she now runs, jumps on two feet, dances, etc.

my twins walked at 21 months, within a few hours of each other--think they were just waiting for one to make the first move. Now they are running all over the place!

lucyellensmum · 07/12/2007 21:12

dd walked about eighteen months after being an accomplished bumshuffler

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 02/01/2008 15:35

i know 2 babies (brothers) that walked as late as 28 and 29 months. the one who walked at 28 months had no problems, the one that walked at 29 months had hypermobility. the doctors told the mum that the upper age limit for walking without problems is 30 months.

CoteDAzur · 02/01/2008 17:27

DD walked at 18 months and even then, she couldn't get from sitting to standing by herself. Managed to pull up at 22 months. Apparently nothing wrong with her, just late.

mumeeee · 02/01/2008 22:23

DD1 was 21 months and my friends eldest son was past 2. They were both bum shufflers.

nooonit · 03/01/2008 10:26

DD at least 23 months (yes, after stressing for months about it I now can't remember when it actually happened!) to walking independently. She also was a bum shuffler - I remember the holes in the trousers well!

Staceym21AtLast · 03/01/2008 10:29

my dd wasnt too late at around 18months, but i met a little girl in our doctors and was talking to her mum, she was 23 months and her mum was willing her to walk by the time she was 2 but the little girl was so fast that she didnt need to walk, such a happy little girl!

i wouldnt worry if hes happy healthy and weight bearing its not a problem!

Donk · 03/01/2008 10:30

My friend was 3 when he walked - no problems, just very bright and he knew that walking was slower than accomplished crawling (as he hadn't got the hang of the former), so couldn't see the point! Especially as he could crawl 'three legged' and carry something.
He only learned to walk when he was dangled from reins! (not advocating this as a method...)

HappyBiglipsYear · 03/01/2008 10:31

DD cruised from 8 months ans walked before her first bday...she was itching to walk a soon she was born!!

HappyBiglipsYear · 03/01/2008 10:31

but ie heard that boys are late developers than girls....as my friend agree as she got a son.

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 03/01/2008 20:53

donk was he really 3 and there was nothing wrong with him? i wonder if he had something like hypermobility that wasn't picked up. my doctor said if they aren't walking by 2.5 then there's normally a reason why. i've done the dangling by reins thing

lulurose · 03/01/2008 21:13

My dd2 walked on new years day, she will be two in a fortnight. I was getting worried too and my GP refered her to physio where we were told she had hypermobile ankles and knee joints. She hads gone from knee shuffling everywhere to walking in the spae of two days. Try not to worry, it will happen.

Donk · 05/01/2008 09:09

I know him quite well - he has no physical issues (would recognize hypermobility since I have it!) - but is a genius (literally). He remembers quite well being made to learn to walk and says that he just found it too slow and frustrating (at first) compared to crawling.
