Why won't my baby sit up by himself any more?

Ok I am probably looking at a 'won't' rather than a 'can't' but W. was sitting happily by about 4 and a half months, and for the last week or so (now nearly 6 months) every time I try to sit him on the floor, he refuses to bend his legs, or if he does, instanty falls over!

Has anyone else's child 'regressed' like this, or is he trying to tell me something!?

TIA, I am just confused really..

Maybe sitting up was actually uncomfortable for him and he has found a way of preventing himself from being stuck sat up?

Maybe he enjoys the sensation of falling over?

I wondered about that but he seemed SO happy sitting - did it for weeks without a peep, and smiled a lot whilst mucking about with toy etc.
I can't understand it, if he was uncomfy surely he wouldn't have done it for so long!

It's probably just a new thing to do. Let him fall down, let him get bored down there and realise he can't get back up again and he might stop doing it!

Thankyou - will have to I guess! That means lazy mum has to pick him up though.
