3 year old - aggressive tantrums

Hi all,

I'm new to mumsnet and hoping someone out there may have some advice or experience they can share.

My bright, generally happy (albeit boisterous!) little boy has started having extremely aggressive tantrums. It started the week before he turned 3 and is becoming unmanageable. There are no clear triggers (v minor issues, or even immediately when he wakes up) and they can last up to 90 mins. During that time he hits/bites/kicks/scratches/throws objects at us. I've read every parenting book out there and tried many options but nothing seems to help. We've asked the GP for help but inevitably that's slow going.... he's also totally fine at nursery so we can't account for the behaviour difference at home.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? I'm now living in fear of my own child :(

Could have written this this week, turned three four weeks ago and has started hitting and kicking. Had a melt down at nursery kept saying no to everything and hit the teacher. Couldn't use scissors so ripped up her work sheet and was play hitting another child but refused to stop when told. This child was a delight till summer holidays and now this. Also told she was boisterous.

Have you looked at bigger things that are happening, perhaps to the family as a whole? Sometimes we don't think little ones will react to the same things that stress us out. Also little ones' ears are more sensitive - have you got any new electrical equipment which could be emitting high pitched frequencies you might not be able to hear?
