14 month whinges/clingy at playgroup

Hi,

My 14 month old son is generally a happy baby who plays well independently and is happy to get on with things himself. However whenever we go to playgroup he constantly cries and holds on to me for dear life. He sometimes will try to interact with whats going on but then cries and returns back to me to pick him up. Is it just me? Or is it something i am not doing that other parents are? All the other babies are happy to get on with the activities and there was a new toddler in todays class who settled in straight away. I feel slightly embarrassed as my son keeps whinging and i feel like im ruining it for the others Sad
