4 month old sleep

Please help!
Baby won’t sleep for more than 2-3 hours then is up every 1hr 20 mins.
Wants to sleep on me or be on the boob (and I know is not always hungry).
He’s nearly 4 months….it’s not sleep regression yet (dreading that)
I tried put down/cry/pat method today but he was just crying an crying I felt like I was torturing him and I don’t want to do that
What can I do

Sounds normal to me, sorry 😬 new parents tend to get obsessed with ‘stages’ eg sleep regression at x months, teething should be y months. In reality, every baby is different.
They might be too hot, too cold, too tired, not tired enough, hungry, lonely, teething, uncomfortable, windy… at any time of any day.
