Aggression on 4 year old

When my son gets upset he's becoming really aggressive and it's really upsetting me (he doesn't see this). 70% of the time he's wonderful and sweet and cheeky and funny but he has this really aggressive side which bothers me. I normally see it when he's unwell or tired.... but I just feel like I'm the only parent going through it (probably because of lack of socialising!). When he is naughty I take him straight up to his room and leave him there until he calmed down. I tend to walk away from the door because if I say outside the door and listened to the things he was saying I would be so upset. He just comes out with really aggressive things like "I'm going to flush you down the toilet", "I'm going to put lava in the house".... etc.... I know those things are silly but to him they are not. He doesn't seem to be bothered about upsetting other people or how he makes others feel..... should I be concerned about this? He loves superheroes and good guy/bad guy toys which I really think influence a lot of this but how can I possible avoid this!
All I ever am is loving and kind to him and I pay him lots of compliments and try my best to be a good role model.... sometimes i wonder if I'm expecting too much empathy from a 4 year old!
It's just been a bad few weeks 🙈
