Ds wants another mummy!

Ds (16 months) has started adopting other women! Whenever we go out - toddler group, library, playground, wherever - he always latches onto a complete stranger and won't let go of her.

Is this normal? It's starting to get a bit embarrassing - the mothers that he 'targets' always say how cute he is and that they don't mind him coming up and climbing onto their laps or refusing to let them go until he's given them lots of hugs and kisses - but I'm sure they're all thinking 'Why doesn't this child want to be with his own mother?'

Most children his age seem to be very shy. Should I just be pleased that he's so friendly? Or do you think this is a bit strange?

Both DSs used to do this. It helped that they had engaging smiles and personalities At playgroup, they used to go off and find someone to adopt as their mother for the afternoon.

Dd2 did this until she was about 3.5. She used to go up to friends and neighbours and say "I weeely wuve you, xxx"! She would do it to people she had only just met too! Rather embarrassing for me but she grew out of it - now (age 6) she just tends to go up to people, smile her winning smile and chat to them!

I suppose I should just be happy that someone else has to play with him all afternoon...
