Hello. Has anyones baby stopped pointing completely and picked it back up after a while? My almost 1 year old has been pointing since 9mths. Using index to point to things to show interest and to request sometimes. For the past couple weeks she has stopped both. I am worried about regressions and about autism from the posts i read. She is otherwise meeting milestones per the asq questionnaires. She also is starting to walk and intently focused on that however loss of babbling and such are more associated with when babies are working on other skills.i havent seen much online about pointing being one of the skills temporarily lost. She does lift things in the air to show us still. Has any one ever experienced this at all?

My son is autistic. He didn't have much regression or loss of skills for me to share experience with.

The reason why pointing is such an important milestone is because it demonstrates their ability to have joint attention. If she is showing you things, she is initiating joint attention. My son never showed me things at that age. Is she following your gaze yet? Does she follow your point? Is she getting your attention and letting you know she wants something in some way?

I think let her crack walking and then revisit it. See if she starts it up again withing a couple of weeks of her walking confidently xxx
