Poor eye contact

Just wondering if there's anybody out there who's had any experience with their LO that had poor eye contact but that's all's it was? Or does it always lead to something else?

Thanks

How old is your little? My girl has had poor eye contact since literally day one. I kept thinking she would grow out of it but she is now 2 and still struggles looking anyone in the eye. This is really her only "off" trait so I am not too concerned at this point. She makes much better eye contact from further away but up close she has never been great. I have an ophthalmologist app booked for next month so I am wondering if there is just some far sightedness going on?! I'm curious if anyone else has had an eye contact issue with no other real concerns aside from that.

Hi, my DS is 7.5 months. And exactly as you say, much better at longer distances. Will be really interested in how you appointment goes, would you be able to give us an update. Hope it goes well Smile is your LO doing ok in other areas?

@Blues1 I will update for sure! She has always had a little fine motor trouble (nothing major) it's something I feel may be associated with a potential eye issue - her depth perception even seems a little off! Do you find when your little one is laying down on a change table or floor her eye contact seems better? I found that's when I would always get the best contact, but when she was being held no chance haha

Yes definitely a lot better when lying down or further away, if I'm carrying him he's always looking the other way or bending over to see what's on the floor. My boys sitting and crawling and motor skills seem on track but he does twiddle his fingers and he doesn't really like me touching his hands anymore.. I'm convinced he's got a problem, which is so hard, I'm just so upset all the time.

I know how that is! Trust me, I spent a full 2 years googling and assessing her every move. The older she gets the less I am concerned about it, and when she was under 1 I remember just wanting her to get bigger so I would know if things would change. I'm sorry that you are worried and concerned, but my best advice is - He really is sooo young! He will probably stop one thing you are worried about and start another just because that's what babies and toddlers do hahha. I wish I would have stayed off google and really enjoyed her more 🥺. I will keep you updated and hope you do too!

I know a baby who had poor eye contact but it turned out she needed glasses which has helped massively.

Google and YouTube are ruining my life at the moment, I'm the same as you I feel like I need some answers and I know I'm not really gonna get any but it won't stop me looking ☹️ of course I will, hope all goes well ☺️ take care

I really hope it's something like this! I'm trying to get an appointment to raise my concerns so hoping to get to the bottom of it or at least start the ball rolling.

@Blues1 thanks for checking in! She just had her app today and turns out she is a bit far sighted. They are going to get her a mild prescription for glasses. I'm hoping it helps with her eye contact up close! I'll continue keeping you posted Smile
