Tell me just how bad teething can get please

Hi all,

I have a 10mo who basically becomes demonic when she is teething. I love to bits and the reason for this post is just to get some reassurance that this is normal, because my friends' babies if similar ages don't seem to suffer quite as much. On the days that she is teething, she will refuse to eat or sleep and we will be in a constant cycle of her screaming to be picked up, me picking her up, her screaming to get away, me putting her down, and repeat. The screaming is terrible, I'm surprised my neighbours haven't said anything. You'd think I was ripping off her finger nails one by one. The only time she will sleep is after hours of screaming when she is just too exhausted to carry on. If I try and give her any medication to help with the pain, she just spits it back out. I honestly don't know if I can take this repeatedly everytime a tooth is about to come through.

When she isn't teething, she is fine and isn't too difficult to put down, and usually enjoys her food.

Is this all normal or am I doing something wrong? Please advise.
